Judy Major-Girardin
MFA, BFA
My studio practice has included painting, drawing, printmaking, and book arts. My current work is focused on fiber-arts. Fiber aligns with my interest in slow, measured, practice, tactile experience and celebration of the hand made. Fabric and sewing enable me to create fluid, flowing and translucent works at a more immersive scale, that can act as a metaphor for water. Concepts of mending, transforming, restoring, and healing connect with my environmental concerns.
My imagery is inspired by wetlands which I believe are unique places with spiritual, health, cultural, and social significance. They are climate and pollution mitigating environments that team with diverse life and provide an ever changing and evolving source of beauty.
