Let go of your creative inhibitions and have fun painting something big and bold. You’ll use large canvases and large brushes to create your own unique masterpieces. All levels are welcome and a sense of adventure is encouraged. Secure onsite storage is available for leaving pieces between classes. For the first class, please bring acrylic paints in three colours (or more) and a canvas of 30”x40” or bigger.

1A08 Oil Painting For Beginner/Intermediate

For beginners, this course provides a basic introduction to the oil medium – for intermediate students, it’s an opportunity to further develop your oil skills as you work on one or more pieces using photos of your choice. Topics include instruction on tools, paint application, composition and more. A significant focus will be on mixing colour and colour matching as you learn how to apply the fundamentals (plus a few handy tricks) to get the colours you want to see on your canvas. Some drawing experience necessary. A small fee for still life materials to be paid to the instructor.

Dundas is located in one of the most beautiful and treasured regions of the Carolinian forest in Canada, offering botanical artists a grand opportunity to creatively explore some of Canada’s unique native trees. The first step in the process of creating a botanical study of such trees is accurate drawing. The focus of this workshop is to keenly observe selected specimens for leaf, stem/branch and nut structure and to create a series of suitable drawings that can be worked into an aesthetically pleasing composition for a graphite or colour study.
