About the Exhibition
Building Better Homes is a tongue-in-cheek challenge of the economic drive for densification that prioritizes humans with neglect of the natural world. The title suggests a more wholistic approach to our relationship with the land and consideration of an alternative concept of home.
Participants in the Art and Climate Change course at DVSA have worked collaboratively to create text and imagery that visualizes sustainability issues and solutions in a large wall collage. The exhibition reflects on how art can bring awareness to our destructive tendencies and our potential for positive impact. Watershed maps, an audio component and an interactive community activity invite us to consider home as something much larger than a personal property or space but rather a shared environment where we might exist in better balance with water, air, soil and all the life they contain.

About the Art and Climate Change Program
The Art and Climate Change program is a free, adult studio course led by environmental artist and teacher Judy Major-Girardin. With Judy’s guidance, selected participants have developed ideas and imagery responding to climate change, culminating in the collaborative group exhibition Building Better Homes. The program also includes five free panel talks open to the public exploring art and the environment with guest artists, scientists, and climate experts.
The Art and Climate Change program and the DVSA Galleries are generously supported by incite Foundation for the Arts.
