Call for Art: WinterBlooms

WinterBlooms

DVSA is now accepting artwork submissions from students for the 2026 edition of Winterblooms. The deadline to submit is November 17 by 4:00pm.

Important Dates

Submission Deadline: November 17, 4:00pm
Winterblooms Show Dates: Thursday, January 22 – Sunday, January 25
Opening Night: Thursday, January 22 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

What is Winterblooms?

Three prominent Dundas locations (DVSA, Carnegie Gallery and Dundas Museum & Archives) present their annual walking tour of free exhibitions featuring original artworks and precious artifacts, accompanied by floral arrangements that take their inspiration from their paired work of art.

For DVSA’s exhibition, the school displays artworks created by DVSA students, and partners with the Mohawk College Continuing Education Floral Techniques program, where floral design students will create an accompanying floral arrangement for each work of art.

A panel of jurors will make a selection of artworks from the submissions. They will select works that they feel will inspire the florists to make an interesting arrangement.

Photos of the selected works are then shared with the Mohawk College students, who will create a floral arrangement that takes inspiration from their paired work of art. The pairings will then be displayed together in DVSA’s gallery.

Eligibility

  1. Open to any student enrolled in an adult class within the Summer 2024–Fall 2025 school year

  2. Maximum two artwork submissions per person

  3. 2D work must be ready to hang (works on stretched canvas need wiring, frame is optional. Or framed works with a hanging wire). 3D work must be “exhibition ready”, i.e. stable to sit on a flat surface or with appropriate hardware to hang. Instructions for wiring your artwork can be found HERE

  4. Works should not exceed 36” x 48”

  5. DVSA reserves the right to refuse work which it perceives as hazardous, damaged, inappropriate for the school setting, not in suitable condition to be exhibited, or if the submission does not follow the above requirements

  6. Reproductions will not be accepted

  7. Artworks do not need to depict flowers to be selected for the Winterblooms show. In fact, jurors likely will not select floral works for Winterblooms as artwork with other subject matter will create a more intriguing show
