Our “For The Petrified” series offers shorter, absolute beginner courses in five key disciplines – Painting, Drawing, Pottery, Sculpture and Printmaking. These courses are designed to offer the encouraging hand-hold you might require to get over any initial creative trepidation. You’ll receive an introduction to the discipline, a chance to explore and experiment, and ultimately a boost of confidence about your artistic potential. After taking a Petrified class, you might just feel ready to take a full Beginner course and continue your creative journey.

Drawing for the Petrified
Wednesday: September 20 – October 11 (4 weeks) 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
This is the perfect course for those who have always had aspirations to draw, but may be holding back. Learning to draw is essential for all aspiring artists and in this absolute beginners class, you’ll take those first tentative steps with the encouragement you’ve been looking for.
Painting for the Petrified
Wednesday: October 18 – November 22 (6 weeks) 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Discover what it is to feel good about the process of painting as you receive an introduction to the basics of watercolour and acrylic painting, along with enlightening discussions about drawing and composition.
Pottery for the Petrified
A: Saturday: September 16 (1 day) 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. OR
B: Sunday: September 17 (1 day) 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Wondering if the art of pottery is for you? Spend the day “pottering” in our ceramics studio and find out. You’ll get to explore working with slabs, coils and the wheel as you determine if this hands–on medium might be for you.
Sculpture for the Petrified
Wednesday: September 20 – October 25 (6 weeks) 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
For many artists, the idea of moving something off the page and into three dimensions can be daunting. However, this course for absolute beginners will have you discovering the creative joys and rewards of sculpting. You’ll work on projects using clay, paper, plaster strips and more to create your own sculptures. You’ll even get to try your hand at raku firing one of your ceramic pieces at the end of the program.
Printmaking for the Petrified
Saturday: November 18 (1 day) 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Curious about the art of printmaking, but feeling hesitant about the unknowns of this traditional technique? This one day workshop offers encouragement and simple, easy-to-follow steps for the absolute beginner printmaker. Spend a day in the print studio getting a feel for the process and working with various water-based print methods including mono-printing, silkscreening and relief techniques.
