Miles Wallace
B.A, B.Ed., O.C.T.
The local art community has flourished over the years while I have grown up in Hamilton. I am very fortunate to now have the opportunity to be working within that community alongside so many talented people.
My proficiencies as an artist include acrylic and oil painting, as well as an eclectic range of digital art and illustration skills. I also have experience as a classroom teacher in the primary and junior grades.
Working with kids is important to me because they remind me not to take myself too seriously, and to continue to appreciate the simpler things in life. My courses aim to build foundational and practical art skills in children so they can pursue their own inquiry-based projects in the future. By including history, theory, process, and technique within my lessons, I hope to expand the artistic horizons of all my students and to provide them with a vision for how they can use art to enrich their lives.
BACKGROUND & TRAINING
My academic career began at Mohawk College in their marketing program. The opportunity of taking on an internship at View Magazine gave me a chance to learn the ropes of designing advertising. Expressing my creative side in a professional environment gave me a new interest in art and design.
I decided that I would enroll at DVSA in their foundation studies program because I needed some direction and guidance. After training with the staff for a year, I developed a whole new understanding of what it means to be an artist.
I was able to go on and attain a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education from Redeemer University. Currently I am a member of the Ontario College of Teachers and look forward to building confidence and determination in the next generation of artists at DVSA.
