About
Holly Sneath

B.A., M.F.A.

Holly Sneath lives and works from her studio in Hamilton.

Over the past 40 years, Holly has explored many genres, including landscape, portrait and abstraction. Her summer escape to the District of Timiskaming in Northern Ontario inspires the smaller works en plein air, as well as the larger studio paintings. The magical skies, the ever-changing lake and the crazy Jack Pines never fail to illicit response.

She has been an instructor at the Dundas Valley School of Art since January 2000, teaching drawing and painting classes in portrait, figure, still life, landscape and abstraction. Holly also teaches at George Brown College, Toronto, in the Design and Media Studies Departments.

Holly’s work can be seen at the Carnegie Gallery, in Dundas Ontario. Her works can be found in collections in Canada, the U.S.A., and Italy.

She holds an MFA from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., and a BA from the University of Waterloo.

Artist Statement

Painting is a conscious attempt to unravel, through visualization and introspection, the essential elements of significance to one’s life. While working through studies from life as well as abstract imagery, I try to catch a glimpse beneath my own veneer of consciousness from which to construct a personal hypothesis of reality. One can only hope that the resulting work might resonate with the viewer.
