4A15D NEW Pen and Ink with Wash and Watercolour - Drawing Cats

This session continues to build on the aspects of traditional pen techniques such as hatching, cross–hatching, stippling and line weight as you use ‘Sketching’ pens to create finished drawing exercises. We’ll investigate sound drawing fundamentals and the principles of light and shadow, plus examine drawings from masters of the medium for inspiration. Basic application of washes from a watercolour palette will be presented. These workshops provide great experience and ideas for sketchbook-keeping. Subject matter provided by instructor. PRE–REQUISITE: Some drawing and pen and ink experience an asset. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of drawing cats with a repertoire of pen and ink and wash techniques. ‘Sketching’ pens will be combined with washes to create at least two finished drawing exercises from photo reference. The potential of raku, post firing, is extraordinary.  Learn how reduction and oxidization effect the colours of various types of raku glazes and how to best treat the pots to get the desired effect. Explore glaze crackle in white and some coloured glazes using compressed air. Using horse hair will also be demonstrated. Students should bring 7-8 small bisque fired pots to class and 3 bisque fired pots with white slip. Any studio clay is fine, but raku is recommended. Sunday.
