3A63 *NEW* Clay Freestyle

For all levels, this is a fun free-form open studio format where you can work on a variety of clay processes under the guidance and mentorship of the instructor. Handbuilding and/or working on the wheel – it’s all fair game. An underlying focus will be on exploring a variety of surface treatments, including slip trailing, masking and plaster mould surface constructions while considering colour and texture through stains, underglaze and pigments. Throughout the course, you’ll be guided in the development of a personal sense of style and by the later weeks, be encouraged to hone your skills for a final supportive critique. Online Writing and Media Communications

In partnership with OCAD U, DVSA offers a selection of online courses each term. Up to 8 credits from the OCAD U Online courses can be applied towards completion of DVSA’s Foundational Certificate Program. Registration must be done through DVSA. Students will receive their course log in information and network credentials by email directly from OCAD U one week before the course start date. This innovative online course approaches online writing from an art and design perspective. Students should learn to use and customize Google's Blogger interface (a free and adaptable web platform) to showcase their own creative content. Interactive tutorials will introduce students to selecting interface styles, customizing templates, creating website navigation, maximizing plug ins and design features, and integrating audio and video content. Other topics will include online writing, building and maintaining an online audience, and leveraging social media platforms. This is a qualifying course towards the Certificate in Digital Media Skills and the Certificate in Business Skills for Creative Professionals. Encaustics use melted, pigmented beeswax to create luminous paintings with translucency, opacity and other unique qualities. In this course, we’ll explore and experiment with contemporary techniques to create colour, textures and patterns, while incorporating mixed media into our encaustic pieces.
